What do you need to know about free software?
I have saved files from older computers to an external hard drive.
I have never requested ANY files to be locked or encrypted - nor have I ever had a choice to name myself as 'Administrator' and I am the only 'User' - Now, I find that some files on the external hard drive are locked when I try to open them on my new HP Envy laptop with Windows 10 - 64 (JPEG, PNG and probably others I haven't tried to open). I do not have a password on my new computer or the external hard drive but have had passwords on older computers from which these files were saved - but not all saved files are affected! When I try to open the files, I get the error message below telling me to use 'the Properties command' in Windows Explorer..
- Where is this and how do I unlock the file(s)? - (need very specific steps to find it and unlock it - I'm old and not computer savvy)
- Why did this happen so I make sure I save future items to my external hard drive in a way in which they will never be locked again and always be available to me no matter what computer I use to access my external Hard Drive?
